Various symbolic meanings are associated to different flowers. Although not commonly used for these reasons nowadays, here are a few of my favourites:
Aster - beginnings
Camellia - excellence (I'm claiming this one, as my name is Camilla, hahaha.
Chrysanthemum - hope
Daisy- Innocence
Freesia - calmness
Heather- passion
Jasmine- good luck
Lily- Virtue
Orchid- ectasy
Poppy - dreams (wondering if this is because lots of them make you sleepy)
Ranunculus - charm
Red rose- true love
Rosemary - rememberance
Sunflower- power
Plants and flowers have been used for hundreds of years to try to help cure and relieve aches and pains. Common things are things like aloe vera for burns or lavender for sleep. What about other plants and flowers and are they used nowadays?
Rosemary- once used to preserve and enhance mental abilities. Rosemary is currently being researched as a potential effect on Alzheimer's.
Peony (probably up there as one of my favourite flowers - Peonies were once used to treat epileptic seizures.
Sage - used for many treatments and proven to support digestion, relieving cramps, reducing diarrhoea, drying up phlegm, fighting colds, acting as a salve for cuts and burns, killing bacteria and reducing inflammation!
Lemon balm - originally used for it's fragrance, now used in herbal teas and in essential aromatherapy oils.
Pot Marigold - was used by the Egyptians to heal wounds. Today oil from the seeds is used in soap production.
Flowers and plants are amazing with many herbs also being used in medicines and cooking. Can unlocking the secrets of flowers, plants and herbs lead to more advances in science and cures for illnesses? I don't know, i'm not a scientist, but flowers certainly do have powers, even if it's decorative and lifts up one's mood.
Thanks for reading!
